June 10, 2006

Joined the Fitness and Low-Key Singles Meetup for a hike around the Leslie Street Spit.  It's a remarkable place.

Dinner was spaghetti.

Saw the Shaw Brothers kung fu movie The Five Venoms at the Cinematheque. (Colin Geddes introduced it.) It was pretty complicated.

Soames: "You mistake all your geese for swans.  I've never yet met an artist who doesn't"--The Forsyte Saga

Today was the first day of Marj's break, and I got up to "C" in the file amalgamation.  I also entered some more performance evaluation data in the computer.

Headache.  Maybe the cool weather was responsible.

We finally planted the last sets in the garden.

Saw the last DVD of The Forsyte Saga.  Quite enjoyable.

Got some Ebay Steve Canyons, Steve Ropers, Rick O'Shays and Terry & the Pirates at Dragon Lady.

June 8, 2006

Dreamed of a Quebec museum with a display showing objects salvaged by divers from a shipwreck, including jam tarts(?).

At work I had another full day and managed to get to the end of the "G" files in my amalgamation.  We also went into the archives room and did some more boxing there.  Marj is taking some time off tomorrow and people seem to know it, because the kept phoning her all afternoon.

Dinner was ham.

Went to a karaoke session at the Geneva Centre.  I sang, "Beyond the Sea," Dancing in the Streets," "Hey, Jude" and "Can't Help Falling in Love."

June 7, 2006

At work I had to redo those envelopes from last week because the address labels were in the wrong place.

After work I went to the Davisville station and saw their new prototype subway car. (There was a stupid survey which I avoided filling out.)

Afternoon nap.

Dinner was McDonald's.

Posted some Dick Tracys, Steve Canyons and Prince Valiants for sale on Ebay.

June 6, 2006

At work I got almost all the way through the "M" files in the amalgamation.  I also did some copying for Dan.

Dinner was halibut.

Got some more Star Weekly comics sections I won on Ebay.

June 5, 2006

Dreamed of an actual 1985 movie review (in The Globe and Mail) that said, "The Heavenly Kid is no Back to the Future--more like 'Forward to the past.'"

At work I typed up a list of all our binder content, much of which may soon be shredded.

After work I bought just five Cinematheque tickets. (I was able to pay in cash!)

Went shopping.

I completely forgot about my appointment with Dr. Hassan, my shrink!  After they phoned, I saw him later in the afternoon.

Dinner was steak.

At choir practice we sang that Macbeth chorus again, and afterward I told Giuseppe about the actual line from a student paper, "Lady Macbeth convinced her husband to kill King Duncan by attacking his manhood." That gave him a good laugh.

June 4, 2006

Went to a Linkup event at the Richtree restaurant.  Unfortunately, along with a few others I got separated from the main group. (The place was crowded!) I don't care for market-type restaurants:  too confusing for me.

Dinner was lasagna.

We removed the furniture from Moira's room and threw out her carpet. (She'll be sleeping downstairs for a while.)

Resumed singing practice after a break of several weeks. [The dust in my workplace was getting to my voice.] I'm ready to resume singing lessons with Giuseppe Macina.

June 3, 2006

Saw the DVD of the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 version of Hobgoblins, a 1980s ripoff of Gremlins.  Some trouble staying awake.

Dinner was KFC. (The parents weren't hungry, so I ate on my own.)

Went to the first Friends & Fun Meetup at the Pickle Barrel in Yorkdale Mall. (The place was a zoo!) I had a butterscotch sundae.

June 2, 2006

Dreamed of feeding nickels and dimes into a vending machine and getting a can of an unknown substance.

At work I went through all the active file drawers to make sure there was nothing misfiled, then returned to amalgamating the terminated files. (I'm up to "P.")

Father and I tried to find some pumpkin sets to plant, but it turned out they all died during the recent cold weather. (We did get some watermelon plants.)

Dinner was fish.

Went to the Karaoke Meetup.  The new songs I sang were "Hooked on a Feeling" and the Sid Vicious version of "My Way."

Baked multigrain bread overnight.

Soames (to his MP son-in-law): "You need to get it into your head that nothing you can say or do will make any difference"

--The Forsyte Saga

Dreamed of visiting St. John's, Newfoundland (which I did at age 18).

I was late for work because it wasn't till I got to the streetcar that I realized it was June and I had to go home for my new Metropass.  In the morning I shifted through all the active files and spread out the empty space created by the new cabinets among all the drawers.  In the afternoon I printed and attached new drawer labels, and also stuffed a bunch of envelopes.  Some of the address stickers I didn't put on the right part of the envelope. (Moira says she's made that mistake too.)

Dinner was pork chops.

Got Comic Relief, a book reprinting all the dailies from Thanksgiving Day, 1985, devoted to discussing hunger and promoting USA for Africa. (I got it for a cross section of 1980s daily strips.)

May 31, 2006

Fleur: "I'm in the right."

Soames: "I know from bitter experience that courts are there to punish people 'in the right.'"

--The Forsyte Saga

Dreamed of visiting our old home in Sackville, N.B., with the parents; complaining that we'd spent too much time waiting at our old cottage while trying to arrange a meetup with Moira.

At work I shifted those files around some more, and finally attached the new stickers to the drawers.

Dinner was pizza.

Saw the DVD of the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 version of Hercules Against the Moonmen. (They didn't have any moon men in it.)

May 30, 2006

Dreamed of visiting San Francisco.

At work, I finished replacing the last of the active files in the new cabinets, only to find that the drawers of one wouldn't close properly.  It turned out that the floor was crooked, and Facilities placed a wedge under it.

Went shopping.

Got a big pile of Ebay Star Weekly comics sections.

Dinner was McDonald's.

Saw the DVD of the Mystery Science Theatre version of the 1959 monster movie The Killer Shrews.

Started reading John Stackhouse's Timbit Nation, a book about hitchhiking across Canada.

May 29, 2006

The TTC had a wildcat strike and Father had to drive me to work. (Marj, who lives in Scarborough, was late.) The facilities people came and shifted the cabinets, and I moved most of the files back.  I walked home through the Nordheimer Ravine.

Afternoon nap. (I sweated a lot.)

Dinner was spaghetti.

At choir practice we did two new choruses from Verdi's Rigoletto and Macbeth.

Moira and I were quarrelling.  She looked at the zip.ca DVD of I Am Cuba Saturday, which we'd already had for two weeks, but just saw a little of it, then said she wasn't finished with it even through she wasn't sure she wanted to see any more of it.  We can't hold on to it forever while she makes up her mind! (Later she decided we could return it.)
